Scottie Scheffler says he would consider having more input on electing future Team USA Ryder Cup captains, should the PGA of America ask him to contribute.
Jim Furyk was announced as Team USA's captain for the 2027 tournament at Adare Manor on Friday, with the 2003 US Open champion having previously captained the side in 2018, when Team USA were beaten by Europe in Paris.
Tiger Woods had been the frontrunner to take over from Keegan Bradley, but ruled himself out of consideration after deciding to take a break from golf following his car crash in March.
Furyk, 55, was subsequently appointed by the PGA of America and now has the tough task of winning an away Ryder Cup, as Team USA look to bounce back from suffering back-to-back defeats in Rome and New York.
Questions have mounted over whether Furyk is the right man to lead the USA back to glory.
Ahead of this weekend's Cadillac Championship in Miami, Scheffler was asked whether he was consulted by the PGA of America on potential candidates to take over the job.
"No, I have no input at all," Scheffler said. "I found out when you did.
"Would I like to have input? If they want me to have input, then I can have input. But the PGA of America runs the Ryder Cup, and it's not the PGA Tour, it's not the players, it's the PGA of America, it's not us.
"So if they want my opinion, they have my phone number, I'm sure. I had to fill out a bunch of forms to play in the tournament."
Team USA has a Ryder Cup committee, which is made up of three PGA of America executives and three PGA Tour players. Scheffler revealed that Jordan Spieth was one of those individuals and that he would ask him about the committee in the future.
Furyk, who made his debut at the biennial event in 1997, has featured in every Ryder Cup over the past 30 years, either as a player or in a leadership capacity.
As a player, Furyk played in nine consecutive events between 1997 and 2014, but was on the winning team in only two of them.
Scheffler, who made his Ryder Cup debut at Whistling Straits in 2021, played under Furyk during the 2024 Presidents Cup and heaped praise on the 55-year-old's leadership qualities.
"Yeah, Jim and [his wife] Tabitha are really great people," Scheffler said. "Jim is a really good leader. He's extremely organised in the way he does things. I think with Jim, you just have so much experience across so many team events, whether it's playing or being a captain.
"The guy's been on those teams for what seems like forever. He had such a long career out here and was so good for a long time. He's been a captain and assistant captain on Ryder Cups as well.
"I think he brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the table. He has a way that he likes to do things and he's very experienced in that role. I think he's going to do a great job."
Scheffler comes into the week at Trump National Doral having missed out on winning both The Masters and the RBC Heritage. He fell short of Rory McIlroy at Augusta National by a shot, before being beaten in a play-off by Matt Fitzpatrick at Harbour Town Golf Links.
After falling outside the top-20 at The Players Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the four-time major champion appears to have rekindled his form and will be the favourite to claim victory at the Cadillac Championship this weekend, with Matt Fitzpatrick and McIlroy both opting to skip the event.
Scheffler is likely to take next week off to prepare for the PGA Championship, which is live on Your Site from May 11-17. However, all eyes will be on the American a month later at Shinnecock Hills, where Scheffler can win the career Grand Slam by claiming victory at the US Open.
"I would love to be able to win the US Open. It's a tournament that I love," Scheffler said, when asked if he has been thinking about the career Grand Slam.
"I love my country, I would love to be able to win my national open. And I've had some success at that tournament before and I think it suits my style of game. I'm excited to go to Shinnecock this year and hopefully get it done.
"Growing up, I think you always have dreams and aspirations. I dreamed of playing golf on the PGA Tour. I dreamed of having chances to win major championships and The Players Championship and tournaments out here.
He added, "I get to live my dream out here playing tournaments and competing, and the actual competition is one of my favourite things in the whole world.
"Playing competitive golf on the PGA Tour is so much fun. I wish I could. I wish I could play my best every single week. But that's why I said I kind of have to build a cadence into my schedule and stuff like that. In order to be at my best, I have to, physically, I just can do it every single week."
